Democrat Ed Case, a congressman from Hawaii has become the subject of much discussion since he told a gathering this week that he is an Asian trapped in the body of a white man. No, he really said that; I'm not kidding. Even more weird, Case made the statement at an event celebrating Asians and Pacific islanders in politics. The crowd was not amused. Neither were many other people. Case has been roundly criticized for his claim.
It's so hard to stay current on what is and what is not acceptable by the left these days. If Case had said that he was a woman trapped in the body of a man, he would have been applauded by the media and the Democrats as a brave transgender fighting the good fight. What's the difference between Case identifying as a woman and Case identifying as an Asian? Physically, Case is neither. Why should Case get to pick his gender but not his race?
And what happens if Case were to say that he identified as an Asian woman in the body of a white man? Are we supposed to applaud the statement or to be offended that Case would appropriate someone else's culture?
It truly is sooooo confusing.
