What Will the President Say?

Tuesday evening at 9 PM, President Trump will address the nation with regard to the crisis at the southern border according to the White House.  The NY Times is reporting that the networks are still "considering" whether or not to carry the speech live.  Let me make that clear:  the President of the USA says that he will address the nation regarding a crisis and the mainstream media is so caught up in Trump hatred that they may not carry the speech!  It's a new low for the mainstream media.

I assume that by tomorrow night, the media will all decide to carry the speech but that they will follow it with either a response by some Democrat or with a panel discussion that will label everything the President says as a "lie".  It really doesn't matter so long as the speech is carried across the country.  It will give the President the chance to speak directly to the people rather than having the endless BS pushed by the media and the Democrats interfering with his message.  So the real question is what will the President have to say.

The President should make the following points:

1.  Our southern border is not properly defended.  The Border Patrol is doing a good job, but there is no way that it can properly police the border with the current funding and infrastructure.

2.  Because of the lack of proper controls, people are crossing illegally into our country.

3.  Because of the lack of proper controls, huge quantities of deadly drugs are pouring into our country.

4.  On multiple occasions US forces have caught people with ties to terrorists coming across the border.  That is a threat to the American people.

5.  Almost every day, drug shipments are found as they come across the border, but it is estimated by the experts at the Department of Homeland Security that for every pound of drugs which is discovered and seized, about six pounds of drugs are getting through undetected.  This is a major cause of the drug epidemic which is sweeping the nation.

6.  Thousands of people are entering the country who would never be allowed into the USA if they tried to enter in accordance with the law.  These include violent gang members.  They also include people who have previously been deported from the country for criminal behavior.  They include many who have committed violent crimes in their own countries.  Letting such people into the country presents a clear danger to law abiding Americans.

7.  There are many issues which can be debated and decided when it comes to immigration, issues like what happens to those who were brought here illegally by their parents when they were just children, issues as to which people should get preference in entering the country as legal immigrants,  Issues like whether or not it makes sense to continue the lottery which awards legal entry each year to 50,000 people around the world at random.  I would like Congress to consider these and other issues and to come to a resolution of these problems which have plagued the USA for many decades now.  I have put forward my own proposal suggesting how these issues should be resolved.  That debate, however, is much different that the current problem we face with regard to the security of our southern border.  When it comes to securing the safety of the nation, I cannot sit by and wait for Congress to decide to act.  When it comes to taking steps to cut off the scourge of illegal drugs from entering the country, I cannot sit and wait for Congress.

8.  One of the most important duties of the president is to protect the American people and to ensure the safety of this country.  Indeed, Congress recognized that there are national emergencies for which the president must act without waiting for a decision to be made by Congress.  As a result, Congress long ago passed legislation authorizing the president to take certain actions if the president determines that there is a national emergency.

9.  Accordingly, tonight I have just signed a declaration of national emergency with regard to security and drug control at our southern border.  Under the law, this declaration authorizes me to have the Department of Defense take steps to bring this emergency under control.

At that point, the President could give in broad terms and outline of the steps he is authorizing.  In other words, Trump can outline that DOD will build the wall.

This speech can be dressed up a bit, but these are the essential points.
