With the Dems getting started on their 2020 campaign, the knives are out. The latest to suffer an attack is Bernie Sanders. The stories are surfacing that his 2016 campaign staff was filled with a number of men who sexually harassed women who also worked on the campaign. Last night the story of Robert Becker (a deputy campaign manager who led Sanders' 2016 efforts in four states) broke; it alleges that he assaulted a woman staffer by forcibly kissing her in a Philadelphia restaurant while making lewd comments. She supposedly is now coming forward because Becker was increasingly active for a Sanders 2020 campaign. There are other such claims being made against the Sanders' 2016 campaign by a number of women.
Sanders is on the defensive here. He has already said that if he runs in 2020, Becker won't be part of his campaign. He also apologized to the women. No one knows if these complaints are even true, but in today's climate, Sanders can't be seen as doubting them.
I have no evidence to support this, but I strongly suspect that the surfacing of these allegations now are meant as a pre-emptive attack on Sanders to help him decide not to run again in 2020.
