Last night, Democrat Virginia governor Ralph Northam admitted that he was one of the two guys dressed in blackface and a KKK robe in the picture in his yearbook from medical school. Today, he is suddenly changing his story and now says that he isn't either one. Somehow, that is supposed to make this better. Of course, Northam put the picture on his yearbook page, so even if he's not in the picture, he chose the picture. There's no defense to that.
For all that has been said, I don't think that Northam needs to resign because of the picture. What he did 35 years ago while in medical school was totally inappropriate, but it was perfectly legal and ought not disqualify him from being governor. On the other hand, the governor's statement on infanticide this week was horrific and should be the basis for his resignation. Still, were Northam to resign, he would be replaced by the Lt. Governor who used to work for Planned Parenthood. No point for the governor to resign if his replacement would hold the same view.
The people of Virginia chose this bozo as governor following a campaign which obviously was quite dishonest. I don't believe that Virginians would have picked Northam if they had a full disclosure of just who he actually is. Unless the legislature decides to impeach Northam, he ought to stay.
