Will The Nonsense Ever End? It Sure Doesn't Look Like It.

Imagine two scenarios.

1.  A group of 50 illegals drive out into the Mexican wilderness and walk across the US border in Arizona at a point where there is no barrier.  A drone and other sensors notice the group come across and they alert the local office of the border patrol which is about 15 miles away.

2.  A group of 50 illegals drive out into the Mexican wilderness and attempt to scale a border barrier consisting of steel slats that are 25 feet high.  As they try to scale the wall, drones and other sensors alert the local office of the border patrol which is about 15 miles away.

Think about that and decide in which case the illegals are more likely to make it into the USA.  You don't have to be a genius to realize that the wall will greatly reduce the chance of the group ever getting into our country.  The illegals could then blend into the population and be very hard to find again.

Now assume that instead of illegals, the people trying to cross the border are carrying drugs from Mexico into the USA.  In the first case, as soon as the drug mules get into the country, they are met by cartel agents who bring their cars to the border to pick up those carrying the drugs long before the border patrol can even get close.  In the second case, the drug smugglers would have to scale the wall and would likely be caught before they could get away successfully.  Without a doubt, the chance of stopping the drugs is much greater in the scenario with the wall.

I mention these two alternatives because the latest ploy of the Democrats is to say that they might support a smart wall comprised of drones and sensors that would alert the border patrol to anyone crossing the border.  The Democrats call that a modern solution.  They fail to mention that it is a "solution" that wouldn't work.  Instead, it is the Democrats attempting to appear reasonable about having a wall while actually doing all they can to prevent construction of that wall.

It's also worth noting that of late the Democrats' talking point on using a wall to stop drug smuggling is that the majority of drugs crossing the border come through legal ports of entry.  That misses the point.  A large percentage of the drugs crossing the border still comes across the border in areas where there are no walls.  Just because drugs come across at other locations is no reason to ignore the places where the wall would make a difference.

There ought to be an honest discussion of the wall.
