There are reports this afternoon that Amazon is reconsidering its decision to locate a headquarters in the Long Island City section of Queens in New York City. There is so much local opposition that Amazon may scrap its plan to be in New York. It's a good move by Amazon. Let's see how many of the loud mouth politicians who are opposing the Amazon headquarters will now shut up out of fear of losing the whole project to another city. My guess is that there's going to be a lot of backtracking and rather quickly.
For what it's worth, Amazon could easily go back to it's third choice city which was reputedly Philadelphia. Were Amazon to bring its project to the University City section of Philadelphia, it would likely get a very warm reception from the locals. It would also be able to greatly reduce the cost of the new buildings it will need, pay lower corporate taxes, have its employees pay lower individual taxes, and have much more local clout due to the bigger impact it would make on the smaller Philadelphia market compared to the behemoth of New York City.
