A Small Footnote, But Big News

If you needed any further proof of the magnitude of the GOP win yesterday, think about this:  In New York, the Republicans took control of the state senate at the same time that governor Andrew Cuomo was winning re-election with less than 55% of the vote.  New York is one of the bluest of blue states.  Cuomo was supposed to cruise to a win with over 60% of the vote; his Republican opponent Rob Astorino was outspent 10 to 1 and hardly mounted much of a campaign.  Even so, New Yorkers flipped the state senate so that the GOP now has the majority.

For me, the win in New York is even more astounding than the Republican wins in elections for governor in Maryland and Massachusetts.  Those were real campaigns with surprising results.  New York, however, came totally under the radar.
