The Problem With Gruber's Honesty

We now have yet another video of Jonathan Gruber discussing healthcare in a way that the Democrats would like to forget.  In the latest video, Gruber, who is a principal architect of Obamacare, was asked about all sorts of negative effects connected with health "reform" such as longer waiting times, bureaucratic bungling, higher costs for lesser service and the like.  Gruber's response was to ask if the question came from "adolescent children".  Actually, the complaint came from a former White House senior policy adviser on healthcare.  That comment alone would not be anything more than bad manners in normal circumstances; Gruber was being rude by attacking the questioner rather than answering the question.  After all the other video, however, this latest one is just another instance of the people who brought us Obamacare displaying their disdain for the concerns of the American people.  Maybe I should call them the "stupid" American people like Gruber does.  The reality is that Gruber and the other "entitled" Democrats at the center of the Obamacare preparation, think of themselves as better than everyone else.

For what it is worth, the story is finally breaking through into the mainstream media (at least somewhat.)  I first heard about this latest video on Yahoo News.  I cannot say that this is the first time I have seen a story damaging to president Obama on Yahoo News.  I can say, however, that it is the first time I recall seeing such a story there.  Yahoo News runs more stories supporting Obama than MSNBC, so if Gruber's videos have made their way onto that news feed, then the problem for the White House is massive.

Gruber's honesty is particularly problematical for president Obama because all the things that Gruber said confirm what most Americas already suspect.  First, Obama and the people around him all think that they know better than the public what is best for the country.  That is why there are never problems recognized by Obama with his policies, only with the messaging used by the White House to explain them.  In Obama's unchanging view, the policies are always correct, but the dim witted American people just do not yet understand them.  Second, the people understood that the way Obamacare was passed was somewhat mysterious.  We all know Nancy Pelosi's famous comment that Congress would have to pass the bill to find out what was in it.  Obamacare was such huge morass of a bill that no one had the time or the inclination to actually get to the bottom of what it would do.  Gruber is now confirming not only that the perception was correct, but also that keeping the bill in unintelligible form was intentional.  Obama and his people did not want America to understand what they were passing.
