Some Interesting Twists

After hearing over and over again from the mainstream media how the "Republican brand" is damaged, I was nevertheless not surprised to see the latest polling from Gallup that shows that among the electorate, there is a higher opinion of the Republicans than of the Democrats.  Gallup found 36% of voters had a favorable view of the Democrats while 42% had a favorable view of Republicans.  To me, this is just a confirmation of what last week's election results told us.

So how can it be that there is endless coverage of the unfavorable view voters hold of Republicans and essentially no coverage of the unfavorable view the same voters hold of the Democrats?  The answer is media bias, of course.  Thirty years ago, the media would have been able to sway the opinions of the country with stilted coverage that favored the Democrats.  Today, there are just too many news sources and too much understanding of the bias in the mainstream media for that sort of slant to make much difference.

Interestingly, the latest polls on president Obama's job performance show him with a 36% favorable rating.  So 36% of voters approve of each of Obama and the Democrats.  It sure sounds like a damaged brand to me.  Let's look for the articles discussing that damaged brand, but don't spend too much time on it.  The "damaged brand" storyline is about to vanish.
