Figure This One Out

Here's a conundrum that one finds on in the latest news.  President Obama has signed an order that extends the mission of US troops in Afghanistan for another year.  Until now, there were to be some troops left in that country, but they were no longer going to be fighting the terrorists out in the field.  At the same time, Obama released some of the terrorists being held at Guantanamo.  Those sent to other countries included some truly heavy-duty terrorists.  So, on the one hand Obama extends the fight against the terrorists while on the other hand he releases terrorist leaders who will inevitably find their way back to the fight.  Simply put, it makes no sense.

In 2008, Obama wanted to close Guantanamo because it supposedly was the best recruiting tool that the terrorists had.  In 2014, no one in his or her right mind believes that argument any longer. ISIS arose with no relation whatsoever to Guantanamo.  Hamas, Hezbollah and al Qaeda are oblivious to Guantanamo.  Once the Democrats stopped whining about Gitmo, no one paid any attention to it at all.  Nevertheless, Obama is still hell bent on closing the place and he is releasing dangerous detainees in order to try to make that possible.  Obama thinks that closing Guantanamo is more important than the lives of those who will be killed by the terrorists he releases (and that inevitably includes American soldiers and civilians.)

If we ever needed further proof that Obama does not understand what he is doing in foreign affairs, this is it.
