Iran in Iraq

CNN reported yesterday that the fighting by Iraqi government forces against ISIS is being assisted by Iranian soldiers of the al Quds units and that command of the soldiers is by an Iranian general.  To be clear, this is not widely reported, but, if it is true, it is a major story.  It would mean that American air power is flying in support of Iranian troops.  That is a story which many will think is wonderful.  Just imagine, our long time enemy, Iran, is cooperating with the USA to fight ISIS.  Now let's get to the reality.  If there really are Iranian forces in Iraq and if Iraqi army troops are being commanded by an Iranian general, then Iran has made substantial headway in its goal of taking control of Iraq.  That control would not be used for purposes that will make the USA happy.  Iran will control a much bigger portion of the world's oil reserves and those revenues will be used to fund terrorists like Assad in Syria and Hezbollah in Lebanon.  The main difference between ISIS and Iran is that ISIS consists of Sunni Moslem terrorists while the government of Iran is made up of those who support Shiite Moslem terrorism.  Washington had better wake up to this threat.
