On Friday, American air strikes hit a house in Iraq which was the suspected meeting place for high ISIS leaders. The strikes also hit a group of cars that were believed to be transporting those leaders. Now comes word that the ISIS leader, al-Baghdadi, has been critically wounded. There is no confirmation, however, of this news. It may be nothing more than a rumor reported by al Arabiya or a bit of misinformation put out by ISIS itself to take attention away from the escape from the area by these men.
One thing is certain: the ISIS leadership now clearly knows that there are those in the areas it controls who are feeding intelligence to Iraqi government forces and to the USA as well. My guess is that if al-Baghdadi has, in fact, been wounded or if he, better yet, dies, we will see a huge number of atrocities visited on the local population of the Iraqi region where this took place.
