The New York Times has finally issued a correction for the ridiculous smear by Gail Collins of governor Scott Walker. Collins wrote an entire column whose point was that education in Wisconsin suffered great harm when Walker's cuts to education funding led to massive teacher layoffs in 2010. Of course, she was totally wrong in what she said since the layoffs were in 2010 and Walker did not become governor until 2011.
Now, days after the erroneous smear on Walker, the Times finally got around to issuing a two line correction which admits that Walker was not governor when the teachers were fired. There is no apology to Walker for the smear; after all, he is a Republican. Nevertheless, the know-it-all columnists at the Times ought to occasionally check their facts.
