"Sleazy and stupid" are words that come from liberal pundit Ron Fournier of the National Journal in describing the latest discovery about Hillary Clinton. Here's the exact quote:
This is sleazy and stupid. Just as Hillary Clinton is getting ready to run for president again, her family's charitable foundation secretly lifted a ban on accepting money from foreign governments.
The Wall Street Journal discovered the ethical breach during a search of donations of more than $50,000 posted on the foundation's online database. "Recent donors include the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Australia, Germany, and a Canadian government agency promoting the Keystone XL Pipline," reported James V. Grimaldi and Rebecca Ballhaus.
It takes a person who is truly a stranger to ethics and morality to decide to accept cash from foreign governments while planning a run for the presidency. Is Clinton promising anything in return for these cash gifts to the Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation? Can it be that Saudi Arabia is actually donating big bucks to the Clintons with no expectation of getting something back in return? Is the agency promoting the Keystone XL Pipeline deciding to give cash to the Clintons with no hope that it will influence a possible president Hillary Clinton's decision on that project? To put it bluntly, even if there is really a good motive for all these mega cash gifts (which is doubtful to say the least), they look terrible. The certainly give the appearance of impropriety.
How can Hillary actually let something like this happen? She knows how bad this looks. Bill also knows how bad this looks. Is it that in their never ending quest for cash, they just don't care? Can it be that the same woman who told us that she and Bill were flat broke in a year in which they had a joint income in excess of twenty million dollars thinks that gifts of a few million dollars or so are just too small to matter?
Hillary really needs to explain this ethical lapse.
