The Latest Brian Williams Claim

It's getting silly.  The review of Brian Williams' past claims of personal accomplishments is getting bigger and bigger.  Today, the story is that Williams lied in the past about the time he rescued a puppy from a burning building.  Really, Williams was a volunteer firefighter, and he says that he rescued one or two puppies from a fire.  I say "one or two" because Williams' story changed over time.  That's one reason why people don't believe it.  Another is that Williams claimed he "felt" the warm and furry dog but could not see it in the smoke, so he just grabbed it an took it outside.  Believe it or not, some people have gone to the effort of finding other firefighters to ask if that makes sense.

Look, there is no question that Williams lied about being on the helicopter that got hit.  There is also no question that he lied about seeing dead bodies float by his hotel in New Orleans during Katrina (since the hotel was in the one part of the city that did not flood.)  But puppies and fires?  That's taking it too far.  Let's not let other people minimize Williams' lies by focusing on the overreaction that questions the rescue of puppies.  It's enough that Williams' lied for years about two pivotal stories in his history.  He has no credibility.  NBC now has to deal with that.
