Howdy Houthis

The Houthis (rhymes with Cooties) are a Shiite rebel group in Yemen.  Today, they completed the take over of the Yemeni government.  This pretty much guarantees an ongoing civil war in that country between the Sunni terrorists (AQAP) and the Houthis.  This should keep both groups busy and contribute to the generally high levels of bloodshed across the region.

If you think about it, the last three years have seen the death of over 300,000 people in battles between Shia and Sunni groups in Syria, Yemen, Iraq, and Lebanon.  The same fighting has created about 5 million refugees.  So far, the USA under Obama has not really gotten involved in a meaningful way in these battles.  Instead, Obama has spent most of his time worrying about the disputes between the Palestinians and the Israelis (which, by the way, have left less than 1000 dead and created no refugees.)  In typical fashion, of course, Obama has made no progress towards a resolution of even the relatively minor Israeli-Palestinian disputes.

There are about 24 million people in Yemen.  If full scale civil war breaks out, we will quickly see hundreds of thousands dead and millions homeless.  No wonder Obama focuses on nonsense like whether or not he was asked before Boehner invited Netanyahu to speak.
