Keeping Your Enemies Close

There is an old expression that one should keep his friends close and his enemies closer.  It usually shows up in movies about the Mafia like The Godfather.  I think that when president Obama was growing up in Indonesia, someone must have taught him the saying but garbled it so that it came out as "keep your enemies close and insult or ignore your friends."  He has really taken that garbled message to heart.

Think about all the things Obama has done with regard to America's friends.

1. The kingdom of Jordan (one of our staunchest allies among the Arabs) has been hit by a terrible murder of one of its pilots by ISIS at a point when King Abdullah of Jordan was in Washington.  So far, Obama has done nothing to react to that event other than to say a few words of condemnation of ISIS.  Even the White House spokesman would not speak in support of the Jordanian response to the ISIS murder.  King Abdullah who denounces "radical Islamic terrorism" gets no support from Obama who talks about "extremists".  Since the US air force is already bombing ISIS, America could easily have launched a major attack on ISIS targets and announced to the world that it was a show of solidarity with the Jordanians.  A move like that would have earned a lot of credit for the USA in Amman.

2.  Prime minister Netanyahu of Israel is going to speak to Congress at the invitation of Speaker Boehner.  Obama does not like this because it deprives him of total control of the message given to the American people about Iran.  We get this.  Nevertheless, Israel is our closest ally in the Middle East.  Now, Obama is organizing a boycott of the speech by Democrats in Congress.  A boycott!!!  Of all the childish responses Obama could come up with, this is just about the nuttiest.  Of course, it is about the one hundredth slap in the face for Israel from Obama.

3.  Canada is our closest ally and our largest trading partner.  The Keystone XL Pipeline will create about 50,000 temporary jobs in the USA and will help keep American gas prices lower.  In Canada, however, the economic impact will be much greater.  The pipeline will allow the rapid development of major oil export jobs in Alberta and Manitoba.  Obama, however, has given no consideration to Canada in his never ending delay regarding the pipeline.

The list goes on at length, but this is sufficient.  Someone needs to explain to Obama the concept of an "ally".
