Hunting for Reality

Remember Al Hunt?  He is now a columnist on Bloomberg View and he used to pretend to be a journalist.  Actually, his main roll in life these days is to be a mainstream media apologist for president Obama and the Obamacrats.  I see his columns now and again, and they are usually good for a laugh.  Still, today Hunt has outdone himself.  His article runs under the headline "Obama's Legacy Will Be Set By Foreign Policy".  It is filled with some amazing things.

First of all, Hunt sloughs off the fact that Obama has paid very little attention during his term to foreign policy.  He forgets the Stimulus, Obamacare, Dodd-Frank, the war on coal, and all the other domestic mistakes.  Now, the big issue is foreign policy.  And what is Hunt's take on foreign policy?  This line should give you a big clue:  Hunt says that Obama's legacy "will be enhanced or tarnished by foreign policy, an area where Obama has limited control."  Get that?  The president has "limited" control of foreign policy.  Unlike domestic policy where Congress has to pass laws and the courts get involved too, foreign policy is the area that is almost completely controlled by the executive branch.  For Hunt, however, that is "limited" control.  It is Hunt's way of saying that it's not Obama's fault because it was out of his control.

Second, Hunt moves on to discuss how big the problem is that Obama has faced.  Here's another quote taken from the article:  "'The president faces geopolitical challenges greater than any in our lifetime,' says Fred Kempe, president of the Atlantic Council, an international affairs research organization."  Apparently, this guy Kempe who is quoted is less than six years old.  Think about it.  Many people today were alive during World War II, which most people would agree was a big geopolitical challenge.  Then there is the Cold War, and existential threat to the USA and the entire free world.  That only ended 25 years ago, so that's during the lifetime of more than half of all Americans.  And let's just think back to 2001.  During that year, we faced 9-11, we faced the nuclear programs underway in Libya, Iran, North Korea and even Iraq (or so we thought).  That's not much different than what we have now.  Even the dreaded bugaboo of climate change was around then with Al Gore promoting his scare tactics.  The idea that Obama faces geopolitical challenges greater than any in our lifetime is ludicrous.

Nevertheless, Hunt is out there talking about how Obama is facing overwhelming challenges and about how he has limited control to deal with them.  That should really tell you that even Al Hunt, the ultimate apologist for Obama, realizes that the president's legacy is one of complete failure.  Hunt is starting the parade of inept excuses already.
