The world saw another twofer yesterday. The twin attacks at Charlie Hebdo and the kosher supermarket in Paris were repeated in Copenhagen. This time the targets were a symposium on free speech and a local synagogue. As president Obama would no doubt say, random targets were hit.
The result is multiple deaths and injuries. The result is another nation in fear. But hey, it's just random violence. Right?
Although the police say that they have killed the gunman in a shootout at a third location, no identity has yet been released. We do know from the police, however, that both attacks were perpetrated by the same person or people.
This event truly makes me angry. I am angry at the crazy individuals who carried out the deed. that goes without saying. I am also angry, however, at my own government that refuses to recognize this attack for what it is: terrorism by Islamic nutjobs. How will we ever beat the terrorists if we won't even recognize who they are and why they are fighting?
