Will This Change Anything?

A poll out today reports that 57% of the American people now favor the use of ground forces to combat ISIS.  That result is truly important and must be surprising to the president and his minions in Obamaland.  Think about it. For the last three years at least, we have been told over and over by president Obama and the various spokesmen for his administration that the American people are "war weary".  The pundit class in the media has repeated this mantra to the point where it is now seen as some sort of wisdom received from God.  Americans simply will not support any introduction of US ground forces into the battle with terror groups in the Middle East, be they al Qaeda, ISIS or Ansar al Sharia.  This axiom has formed the background of all that Obama has done.  No matter what actions get taken, there is always a strong statement how there will be no "boots on the ground".  Even the recent request by Obama for an Authorization for the Use of Military Force has been clear about barring any use of American troops for sustained offensive actions against ISIS.  On top of this, Obama has consistently played down the danger faced from ISIS.  It's no big deal, we are told by the ideologue-in-chief.  There's not really a religious aspect to the conflict is another point raised often by the Obamacrats.  According to them, ISIS is just a group of disgruntled poor folks who only really want jobs.  This view which is more Saturday Night Live parody than foreign policy has been on display over the last week and particularly over the last few days at the "summit" on violent extremism at the White House.  So Obama and his people not only get guided by the war weariness of the American people, but he does all he can to reinforce that same war weariness.  He downplays the threat and he dreams up ridiculous and less threatening excuses for what is happening.

Despite all the propaganda, however, the American people have seen reality.  No White House conference can obliterate the news of two dozen Christians being beheaded for their faith by ISIS.  No claim by some incompetent State Department spokesman can convince us that when ISIS burns alive over forty Kurdish soldiers and their families in al Baghdadi it is actually a plea for more and better jobs.  No arguments that there really is not much of a threat here can overcome the reality that we have seen terror strikes now in the last few months in Canada, Australia, France, Belgium and Denmark.  Many are dead, and it has nothing to do with jobs.  America can see this.  Unfortunately, Obama and his minions either can't or won't open their eyes to the facts.

Now, however, things have gotten to the point where there is a substantial majority of Americans in favor of committing US ground forces to the fight.  Will that cause Obama to change course?  Normally, a totally political man like our president lives and dies by the polls.  I wonder, however, if the true-believer Obama will kowtow to the polling data in this instance.  After all, it would require Obama to do two things that he detests:  1) disappoint the far left base of his party, and 2) even more distasteful to the president, admit he has been wrong.  I really doubt that he will get it.

The time has come now, however, for the rest of the Democrats to start facing reality.  They need to speak out in favor of strong action being taken to stamp ISIS out now.  Ambivalence in the face of danger to America and the American people is no virtue.  Just think how a statement by Hillary Clinton now in favor of taking real action against ISIS would change the dynamic in Washington.  It would free rational Democrats from the shackles of loyalty to the delusions of Obama.

So does Hillary have the courage to do this?  It's a good test to see what sort of president she would be.  Can she do something that is good for the country even if it might create some problems for her personally (which would be easily overcome within the Democrat party?)  We will have to wait and see.
