Phil Griffin is the commissar..er.. president of MSNBC. Today, Martin Bashir "resigned" from his position at the cable "news" network and issued a statement to the media once again apologizing for his disgusting attack on Sarah Palin. I am not going to repeat what Bashir said, but will leave it by saying that Bashir's attack on Palin was one of the worst things ever heard on the American media. It was made still worse by the fact that the attack was scripted; in other words, the attack was written ahead of time and approved by the MSNBC producers before it was delivered. That makes MSNBC just as culpable as Bashir for the vile statements.
So after Bashir "resigned" today, what was the response from Commisar Griffin?
Here it is:
“Martin Bashir resigned today, effective immediately. I understand his decision and I thank him for three great years with MSNBC. Martin is a good man and respected colleague – we wish him only the best.”
Is he kidding? A respected colleague??? Really???
Does anyone remember the reaction from MSNBC when Congressman Joe Wilson shouted "you lie" at president Obama during one of his innumerable speeches to Congress? Wilson commented on the honesty of what Obama was saying about Obamacare (which statements by Obama have now been shown actually to be lies.) Wilson did not suggest taking any personal physical action against the president. He did not call for anything vile or disgusting to be done to Obama. Wilson only pointed out that Obama was not telling the truth. Clearly, it was inappropriate for the Congressman to shout out during the president's speech in that manner, but he was commenting on the substance of what Obama was saying. On MSNBC, the called for Wilson to resign, to be censured, and basically to be run out of Washington.
Compare that reaction with the one today from commissar Griffin who says Bashir is a "respected colleague".
I realize that I sound angry about this. That is because I am angry about this.
I suggest that each American contact the Chairman of Comcast, the corporation that owns NBC. Tell them that Griffin's response is unacceptable. Demand an apology from MSNBC and Comcast. Nothing less will do.
Here is the address for Comcast:
