Reusing the Old Playbook

When I saw the news this evening, I was struck once again by how president Obama continues to say that the Republicans have no ideas when it comes to healthcare.  He is wrong and he looks silly repeating the claim over and over.  Then I realized something.  When the news came out that the IRS had illegally targeted conservative groups and individuals, Obama told us that he knew nothing about it (even though members of his cabinet as well as the White House staff all knew).  When the consulate in Benghazi was attacked, Obama disappeared and to this day we do not know where he was.  All we know is that he was not directing the American response to the attack (and I use the word "response" loosely.)  When it became public knowledge that the federal government was snooping on the AP and Fox News reporters and even lying to federal courts to get the required permission, Obama told us that he knew nothing about it.  Obama has also claimed not to know about many of the NSA intelligence gathering methods like collecting cell phone records, email, internet searches, etc.  Even when the Syrians under Assad first used chemical weapons, Obama said that he did not know if that was the case.  The British, the French, the Israelis and other countries found conclusive evidence of chemical weapons usage, but Obama said that we did not know for sure.  In other words, Obama's principal method for dealing with things he does not like or does not want to deal with is to claim that he does not know about them.

Think about that.  Obamacare is crumbling into a heap of rubble.  It is not achieving its desired goals, but it is causing maximum pain around the country.  Were Obama to discuss the various alternatives that have been offered over time by the Republicans, he would have real problems trying to show that his plan is better.  In fact, his plan is not better than no plan at all; Obama has made things worse.  So Obama is using his standard response to events or items that he does not want to deal with.  Obama is claiming that they don't exist or, at least, that he does not know about them.

It is a truly terrible strategy for a president of the United States to use.  It doesn't even work for ostriches; it will never work for America.
