The News That Isn't News

While I was in my car this morning, I heard CBS radio news talking about the big surprise of House Speaker John Boehner criticizing a few conservative groups that came out against the budget deal in the last few days.  It seemed like an odd news story to me; Boehner has never been shy about saying what he thinks, and discord among the many Republican/conservative groups is common.  Then I saw articles about the big "battle" among Republicans that were all written by liberal Democrats like Eugene Robinson.  Robinson frequently functions as one of the many media folks who dispense administration talking points, so his column together with the others make me think that this discussion of the Republican "battle" is being pushed by the Obamacrats.

So why are they doing this?  Surely, most Americans do not care if Boehner and the Heritage Foundation are at odds.  There are actually two reasons:  first, the Obamacrats are desperate to find something to talk about other than Obamacare and the damage it is inflicting on the American people.  Almost anything will do so long as it has no connection with healthcare.  Second, the Obamacrats are hoping to create a schism in the conservative movement to make it less effective in the coming elections.

The reality, however, is that most of the media coverage will act only to distract the Democrats.  The average conservative voter does not really care about the relationship between Boehner and groups like Tea Party Patriots.  Right now, the battle is to get rid of the monster that is Obamacare.  There are only two sides in that battle, and all of the Republicans and conservatives are against it.
