The gunman in the latest school shooting in Colorado was described by fellow students as a "committed Socialist" for whom "more economic equality" was critical. Even CBS pointed out that the shooter was a "communist", so his political beliefs made it past the usual disinterest of the mainstream media (unless he had been in the Tea Party). I did check both NBC and MSNBC and found no mention of the shooter's political views, however.
Regardless, I was struck by two important points about the latest shooting.
First, the committed leftist shooter used completely legal weapons in the rampage. He had a shotgun that he had bought legally about a week ago. He also had Molotov cocktails and a machete and a large number of shotgun shells. In other words, all the gun control measures pushed by the Democrats last January and February would have had not effect on this latest attempt at mass murder.
Second, the episode was brought to an end when an "armed school resource officer" entered the library where the shooter was located to confront him. When faced with armed opposition, the shooter took his own life. So having armed personnel in the school ended the shooting and undoubtedly saved many lives. Remember last January and February when the head of the NRA said that the way to stop school shootings was to have armed guards in schools? That suggestion was mocked as insane by the liberal media; they told us that only the gun control that they wanted would work.
So, summing up, gun control (like the measure that Colorado did pass) did not work. The proposed gun control measures offered by the left last winter would not have worked. The plan offered by the NRA did work.
