Remember Greg Orman? If you don't, it really does not matter. Still, Orman is the "independent" candidate for Senate who lost the Kansas election to Republican Pat Roberts. About two months before the election, the Democrat leadership in Washington convinced the candidate nominated by the Dems for that Kansas seat to withdraw from the field and to endorse Orman. The ploy was intended to remove the stigma (and in Kansas it is a stigma) of being a Democrat from the nominee opposing senator Roberts. As part of the charade, Harry Reid and the Democrats made a big deal out of how they were not supporting or helping Orman in any way. Claims by Roberts to the contrary were scoffed at and denounced as lies. Well, now we know the truth and it is pretty amazing.
National Democrats contributed over two million dollars directly to the Orman campaign. This has been disclosed in the latest round of campaign finance reports required by federal law. The interesting thing, of course, is that because of the timing of these campaign finance reports, all contributions made on October 15 and earlier were disclosed prior to the election. Those made later than October 15 were only disclosed now, a month after the election. So when did the Democrats make their multi-million dollar contributions? If you guessed that they began on October 16, you are correct.
It's good to know that Harry Reid is no longer the Senate majority leader starting in January.
