There Goes Another Obama Promise

Remember president Obama telling us that there would be no US combat troops in Iraq?  Well, that was then, and this is now.

American ground troops battled ISIS forces on Sunday at the Ein al-Asad airbase in western Iraq.  American jets supported the US ground forces.  Iraqi troops at the airbase were also involved.

In fairness, it should be pointed out that the ISIS soldiers attacked the US ground troops.  As of now, US forces are not sent on ground missions to seek out the ISIS terrorist army.  Nevertheless, the American troops who were attacked are stationed in the middle of Anbar province, an area that is mostly controlled by ISIS.  It does not take much foresight to see that troops stationed at Ein al-Asad are likely to get attacked by ISIS.  In other words, the battle by US forces may have been a defensive one, but it was a battle that America chose nevertheless.

It really should not surprise anyone that now that we have so many troops back in Iraq, they are engaging in battle with ISIS.  There will surely be more such fighting to come.  Obama's promises to the contrary were nothing more than phony political lies.

In the "good news" column, it is worth noting that the ISIS attack was driven off and that ISIS forces suffered heavy casualties while no Americans were killed or wounded.  The soldiers who withstood the ISIS attack should be commended.  Hopefully, Obama will stop making the false claim that we have no ground troops in combat in Iraq.
