Statesmanship???

In one of the most bizarre and out-of-touch statements I can recall, Juan Williams said today on Fox News Sunday that the vote in the Senate to pass the omnibus spending bill was in response to calls by the American people for statesmanship and bipartisanship.  It may be that the bill had to be passed.  There certainly were alternatives that could have been followed, so the choice of how to proceed was not limited just to accepting the bill.  No one, however, in his right mind could call the actions of the senators "statesmanlike".  The truth is that what happened in the Senate is a disgrace.  Once again, the Congress was faced with an enormous bill on which it had to vote without there being any chance to read and digest the content and without there being any ability to amend the provisions in the measure.  Voting for that is much more being an automaton and much less being a statesman.

Starting in January, the new Republican majority better bring real oversight and consideration back to Congress.  We have already had too many years of abdication by the Democrats of Congress' duty to control the government through spending controls.  Each department should have its own spending authorization and appropriation.  Those bills should be considered at length in committee in each house and then should be voted upon separately by each house.  The work ought to be done early enough so that the spending will be in place prior to the start of the next fiscal year for the most part.  It has been eight years since Congress has been able to look at individual programs and defund the ones that don't work and increase the ones that work well.  All the Democrats wanted to do was shovel money in general at government programs.  They did not care if they worked or not.  Just look at the Obamacare exchange.  The government spent one billion dollars on a website, A WEBSITE.  It is the most expensive website by at least a factor of ten in the history of the world and it still does not work fully even after three years of development and over a year of repairs.  That kind of crap has to end.  The Republicans have to show that they can run an effective government.  That means getting rid of the programs that don't work.

Here's an example:  the department of HHS did a very detailed study that showed that Head Start and other pre-K programs do not provide any lasting improvement for the kids who attend them.  That means that we are spending billions and billions of dollars on programs that make no difference to the kids by the time they get to third grade.  Those programs should be stopped.  That, however, will require a major battle against the propaganda that will surely come from the liberals about how wonderful Head Start actually is.  BUT IT DOES NOT WORK!!!!!!!!!
