It's really strange. In recent weeks stories appeared linking Bill Clinton to Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender (and billionaire) who, among other things allegedly procured underage women for Britain's Prince Andrew and other celebrities. Now we are getting stories scattered through the media that Hillary Clinton is livid because Bill was involved with another sex scandal. Hillary is back playing the victim, the poor wife who has been dishonored and disgraced by the escapades of her husband. This was the role she played in the 1990's after she could no longer deny the truth of the Monica Lewinsky affair, and it gave her much sympathy at the time.
The problem for Hillary is that back in the 1990's she was First Lady, not a candidate for president. Now candidate Hillary wants America to accept that she was naïve enough to believe Bill had changed his ways so that her anger and surprise at Bill's conduct is appropriate. But is it? Would Americans really want a president who could not even see the truth about her husband? I mean is there really anyone out there paying attention who believed that Bill was now, suddenly, a faithful husband who no longer had a roving eye? And if there were people who actually accepted Bill's transformation into a choir boy, do we really want a president who cannot recognize an obvious lie when it is told to her?
Hillary may be trying to get away from the Epstein publicity; we can all understand that. But to portray herself as a naïve victim is not creating the image that America wants to see for its president. The reality is that the Epstein story is old news; Hillary could have laughed it off. Instead, she is choosing to create herself as a victim, and that may cause her great damage for the future.
