Another Veto Threat

With all the attention on Paris and the detestable Islamic crazies who attacked a French magazine today, another important piece of news is getting scant attention.  President Obama has announced that he would veto a bill now before Congress which would restore the 40 hour work week.  Actually, the bill would alter the terms of Obamacare so that "full time workers" would be those who work for 40 hours rather than just 30 hours.  This may not sound like much, but it is actually a very important bit of legislation to relieve one of the more onerous burdens that Obamacare placed on middle class workers.  You see, the 30 hour standard set by Obamacare had the result of forcing many small companies to cut the hours worked by their employees to under 30 hours per week.  This had the effect of reducing the number of full time workers at the company under 50 so that the harshest requirements of Obamacare would no longer apply to the company.  The result was many workers who no longer had enough work so that they could earn a living wage.  It meant higher unemployment.  It meant more poverty across the country.  It meant more hunger, less medical care, and a general decline in the well being of one segment of middle income workers.  It was a massive income redistribution scheme, but it took money from those who were on the borderline just above poverty and it force those people below the poverty line.  Simply put, it was a disaster for millions of Americans.

Obama's threat to veto this corrective legislation shows that Obama cares more about keeping Obamacare from any changes than he does about helping the poor and the lower middle income group.  The veto threat is bad health policy, bad economics, bad for America and just all around BAD.
