Panic in Albany

The New York Post is reporting today that NY governor Andrew Cuomo is in a panic after the corruption indictment of Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver by the feds.  Remember, the focus of the federal investigation was supposed to be the abrupt shutdown of Cuomo's anti-corruption task force a while back.  The rumor is that the task force was getting too close to corruption by those around Cuomo or possibly by Cuomo himself.  There is no public evidence of Cuomo's involvement in corruption, but until Silver's indictment there was no public evidence of any corruption involving him either.  The US Attorney for the SDNY whose office is running the investigation told the press after the Silver indictment to stay tuned since there would be more indictments coming soon.

After working in New York for many years, including many when my principal involvement was with government, there is little that would surprise me about that state's leaders.  Still, it will be interesting to watch events unfold so we can see if Cuomo's reported panic has a real cause.
