When Ideology Triumphs over Common Sense

America needs its leaders to use common sense.  That couldn't be more clear than today when president Obama transferred 15 high risk detainees from Guantanamo and sent them to the UAE.  Each of the 15 men released had been rated as too dangerous for release by the board that reviewed the activities of each Guantanamo detainee.  These are not a group of men who just happened to be smoking a joint at the wrong place.  These are terrorists who committed cold blooded murder of civilians and American troops in places all over the world.  In the past roughly 30% of those released went back to join the terrorists once again.  With this group, the likelihood of a return to terrorism is much higher.

How can Obama release these murderers?  It's not like the war on terror is over.  Even in Obama's most delusional state, he must realize that the terror groups are still trying to kill Americans and others.  Releasing these men is putting killers back on the battlefield to kill our servicemen and civilians.  Obama's stated reason is the we have to close the Guantanamo prison, but that's nonsense.  Obama says Gitmo is used by the terrorists as a recruiting tool.  That was never a credible position, but now it is just plain laughable.  There are no mentions of Gitmo in the ISIS or al Qaeda magazines and on-line materials.  There is no demand by people on the street in countries with a terrorist presence to close Gitmo.  The terrorists don't really care about the prison; the only one who demands that the prison be closed is Obama himself.

The actual problem is that Obama announced at the start of his term that he would close Gitmo.  Now he is so wedded to that position that he cannot bring himself to see the reality of the situation.  Obama gets to live in his delusion behind the protection of the Secret Service.  The rest of us have to live out here in the real world.  We suffer so that his ideology can triumph over common sense.
