I know that Louisiana tends to vote Republican in the presidential elections, but even so, I have to wonder why both president Obama and Hillary Clinton are paying so little attention to the major floods that hit that state this week. The people of Louisiana are still Americans, aren't they? Obama is president of "not red states or blue states, but the United States of America." At least, that's what he told us, right? So why don't the people of Louisiana count?
This is a major disaster. Roughly 100,000 people are currently homeless. Meanwhile, Obama has not even bothered to issue a statement supporting those in need. And he certainly hasn't gone to Louisiana to see the devastation because that might interfere with his vacation on Martha's Vineyard. Got to get those golf games in, right?
Now, Obama's made it worse. He has no message of support, but he did manage to send a memo to the state, local and private agencies trying to help those who have lost everything. In the memo, Obama tells these people to make sure that they don't engage in any sort of discrimination in the relief efforts. It's truly bizarre. Homeless people of all races and religions are being fed and housed and helped. Obama's concern is not helping in that effort but putting out unnecessary memoranda warning about discrimination. Remember, there has not been so much as a whisper coming from Louisiana of any such discrimination. Nevertheless, on that subject, there was time for the White House to get involved. For helping the flood victims, not so much.
Then there's Hillary. It seems as if she's trying to show the contrast between her and Trump. Today, Trump and Mike Pence were down in Louisiana reviewing the damage and helping out where they could. On the other hand, Hillary stayed off the campaign trail but flew to -- you guessed it -- Martha's Vineyard where she's going to attend a party. I guess she doesn't play golf.
This whole thing makes me think of that old saying:
"Old uncaring, self-important Democrat politicians don't fade away; they just go to Martha's Vineyard."
