A Wise Decision

In today's press briefing at the White House, Jay Carney announced that news of the IRS targeting of conservative groups was kept from president Obama, and that keeping Obama in the dark was a "wise" decision.  I am not kidding; Carney actually said that it was wise to prevent Obama from finding out about the illegal conduct at the IRS.  Carney did not bother to say why this course of action was "wise", and none of the press gurus in attendance deigned to ask that question.

Look, there is no way that Obama did not know what was going on.  We are supposed to believe that Obama's counsel and the Chief of Staff, among others, knew of a scandal that would explode into a major problem once revealed, but they chose to keep it from the president, their boss.  Sure, that really happened!

But whether or not Obama knew, I was amused by the concept of a major story happening with the White House staff deciding to keep that news from the President.  It got me to thinking.  Here are a few other stories that seem comparable:

1.  Washington, December 14, 1941, President Roosevelt was asked today in a press briefing for his reaction to the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor.  The president responded, "What attack?  That's the first I have heard about it."

2.  Florida, September 11, 2001, President Bush spent this morning visiting a local elementary school to promote his education program.  After the morning's activities ended, a member of the press corps asked the president why he had been ignoring the terrorist attack on the Pentagon and the World Trade Center.  Bush wrinkled his brow and said, "what are you talking about?  That's the first I have heard about it."

3.  Washington, November 5, 1990, At a Rose Garden ceremony welcoming the new World Series Champions, President Bush was asked why he has had nothing to say about the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait last Summer and the subsequent big increase in world oil prices.  The president looked at an aide and said, "What is this guy talking about?  What happened in Kuwait?"

4.  Washington, December 15, 1972, President Nixon was asked today about his opinion of the break in last Spring at the headquarters of the Democrat National Committee in the Watergate in Washington.  Nixon smiled and said that this was the first he was hearing about that event.

Let's put it this way:  THERE IS NO WAY OBAMA DID NOT KNOW!

Let me be clear:  the fault here is not just with Obama; the fault lies with the entire group of liberal true believers who have taken over in Washington.  These are people who think that the laws do not apply to them.  These are folks who have decided that the ends justify the means.  Are there opposition groups?  Let's destroy them!  Are there people reporting the truth?  Let's tap their phones.  Are there individuals funding the opposing party?  Let's get the IRS to audit them, OSHA to inspect their workplaces, and the FBI to question their staff.  If there is any confidential information we have, let's leak it to friendly media in order to destroy our opponents.  Simply put, these are people who would make the KGB proud.
