And Now For Something Completely Different

The title of this post comes from Monty Python, a perfect manifestation of the British sense of humor (or should I say humour).  It seems, however, the perfect title for a discussion of the news carried by my local newspaper, the Greenwich Time, a Hearst publication.  For years, the paper has reliably published news slanted in favor of president Obama, so today I wanted to see how the Time was covering Benghazi, the IRS and the snooping on the AP.

The answer surprised even me, and I have very low expectations for the liberal media.  Today's newspaper does not mention any of these scandals.  Not one mention; nothing; zilch; nada!

The big story in the paper today is, not surprisingly, the visit to town yesterday of Prince Harry.  He was here to play in a charity polo match that was attended by all sorts of beautiful people from the New York area.  There was wall to wall coverage.  Okay, I understand that.  The other stories in the paper, however, included these:  "Celeb Couples Who Met on Set", "Yale Fined $165K For Not Reporting Sex Offenses", A Beer For Every Personality", and --believe it or not -- "55 Years of Presidential Jets".  Someone who got his news from the Greenwich Time would not even know about the scandals.

I realize that the scandals are national news and this is a local paper, but that has never stopped the paper from covering national stories in the past.  No, something more is at work here.  What we are seeing is the inability of liberals to even listen to news that shows Obama and the Obamacrats in a bad light.  This "Obama Bad News Aversion" phenomenon is manifest in many different ways.  For example, if you look at the cable news ratings for Tuesday, May 14th, you find that MSNBC practically had no viewers.  Okay, I know that MSNBC usually does not have all that many viewers, but their normal ratings were down by over 50% from what they usually are.  The ratings at CNN and Fox did not change much, but MSNBC fell through the floor.  For example, O'Reilly had and audience seven times that which viewed Chris Hayes.  Even Anderson Cooper on CNN and Nancy Grace on HLN beat Hayes by over 25%.  What this means is that the liberals cannot bring themselves to hear the truth about president Obama and his administration.

By contrast, if you go back to the first few weeks of Obama's second term, you will find that MSNBC had much higher ratings than normal.  All the celebratory coverage brought out the full cohort of the left.  It seems that the motto of those who display Obama Bad News Aversion ought to be an old favorite:  "Don't confuse me with the facts!  My mind is already made up!"
