More Tensions on the Syrian - Israeli Border

The Assad regime in Syria was made to look toothless and inept a few weeks back when the Israeli airforce took out a series of weapons depots that were holding missiles meant for shipment to Hezbollah in Lebanon.  Iran is in a rush to get the weapons to the terror group in case the Assad regime collapses and the conduit through Syria to Hezbollah is lost.  Today, the Assad forces made their move to reassert their strength in the area.  It was a farce.  Here is what happened:

The Syrians attacked an Israeli vehicle that was near the cease fire line.  The vehicle was damaged, but no Israeli soldiers were injured.  The Israeli forces returned fire and a Syrian army post was destroyed.

The Assad regime, however, spun the story differently.  According to Damascus, an Israeli vehicle crossed the cease fire line and was destroyed by the "noble" Syrian forces.  The Israelis fired two rockets, but they fell harmlessly, doing no damage.

So, why am I so sure that the Israelis are accurately portraying the story and the Syrians are spinning?  Think about it!  The cease fire line is not an imaginary line on the ground.  There are multiple fences of barbed wire and other barriers that follow the cease fire line.  There is no way for an Israeli truck or car to cross the line by itself.  And what would the Syrians say was happening?  Was this a very small invasion force that the Israelis sent to take control of the area?  Very few nations would send a one vehicle invasion force.  Then, there is also the history of the Assad regime.  These folks lie so often, that they seem in training for some sort of Olympic event.

In many ways, it is a good thing that Assad has made this move.  With this tremendous "victory", he can return his focus to killing tens of thousands of his fellow countrymen.  His "honor" is now restored.  The rest of the world can also return to ignoring the ongoing murder.
