Another bit of information has surfaced which raises further questions about when the White House first learned that the IRS had improperly persecuted conservative groups and individuals. The Daily Caller is reporting today that White House Chief Counsel Kathryn Ruemmler met alone with Christopher Meade the Treasury Chief Counsel on three occasions in September and December of 2012 according to White House visitors' records. This may not sound like much until you learn that these are the only times that the White House counsel met with the Treasury counsel for many years and that the Treasury counsel knew all about the IRS criminal activity at the time of each of these meetings.
Previously, we were told that no one at the White House knew what was going on at the IRS, then that the White House counsel was told in late April/early May, then that the counsel was told in mid April, and then that those on the White House staff knew that there was an investigation but did not know the results of that investigation. Meade of Treasury knew that the internal investigation by Treasury had uncovered the wrongdoing at the IRS.
So now are we to believe that there were three unprecedented meetings between these two and that the Treasury counsel did not bother to tell the White House counsel about the criminal activity at the IRS? Are we to believe that Meade met repeatedly in private with Ruemmler but kept from her this extremely explosive information? Should we just accept that Meade sandbagged the White House rather than giving them a heads up of impending news?
You need to know also that the Treasury counsel is a strident ideologue, a true believe in the progressive cause championed by president Obama. There is no doubt that Meade would do what he could to protect Obama by warning his counsel of the coming maelstrom.
The truth seems inevitably closer to coming out. This is not something that just happened without White House involvement. Obama or his staff knew what was going on. I cannot yet say that they directed it, but it seems pretty certain that they let it continue. It also seems pretty certain that they covered it all up until after the election. The people involved actually are likely to be co-conspirators (unlike James Rosen).
