Obama Tries Talking Down the Scandal

At 6:15 tonight, president Obama made a statement in the White House about the IRS scandal.  It was a joke.  Obama made just a few points:

1.  The acting head of the IRS has resigned.

2.  The White House and the Treasury Department are going to investigate to make sure they know what happened with regard to the harrassment of conservative groups that applied for tax exempt status.

3.  The White House will cooperate with Congress in any investigation done by the legislative branch, but Obama warned Congress not to make this into a political matter.

4.  The Treasury will look into what happened to see if new regulations or laws are needed to prevent another such episode.

That's it.  Nothing more.  Obama ignored the individuals who have come forward with tales of IRS harrassment.  Billy Graham and his ministry was targeted, but Obama ignores this and countless other targets.  Obama ignored the co-chair of his campaign who asked for and received confidential IRS data in order to attack Mitt Romney.  Obama ignored the fact that much of what happened is criminal.  People deserve to go to jail for this; a Treasury investigation is not enough.  Obama ignored the need for a special prosecutor.

In short, this was just another attempt by Obama to get something under control by speaking about it.  There was no action, just talk.  Well, Mr. president, we are way past the point where talking will suffice.  The time for action has come.  It will just have to be up to the Congress to clean up the swamp at IRS, Treasury and the White House.
