Weiner for New York ---- Is He Kidding?

Disgraced former congressman from New York City, Anthony Weiner, announced this morning that he is running for mayor.  Weiner, of course, resigned from Congress a few years back after he tweeted photos of his private parts, lied about how it happened, blamed someone else for hacking his twitter feed, and ultimately was forced to admit the truth.  Indeed, it turned out that Weiner had a penchant for sending such photos.  That sure sounds to me like good qualifications to be mayor of America's largest city.

I am going to refrain from the usual sort of response to Weiner's announcement (e.g., he announced a plan to turn the Big Apple into the Big Banana).  Weiner, you see, actually has a chance to win this election.  His competition for the Democrat nomination is extremely weak.  As a result, it is worth looking at who Weiner really is rather than making fun of his foibles.

The truth is that Weiner is an angry and self important liberal.  The key in that description is not the word "liberal".  After all, it is hard to imagine the next New York mayor being anything other than a liberal.  No, the key is that Weiner is both angry and self important.  Weiner is the sort of person who sees the IRS targeting of conservatives as fine.  He sees opponents as somehow not entitled to their views.  He views the police state of the left as a goal to which one can aspire rather than an evil to avoid.  Before his fall, Weiner was a fixture on news talk shows; he always hewed to the ideological talking points and shouted down those who did not agree with him.  There is no humanity there, only ideology.  In short, Weiner is exactly the wrong sort of man to lead New York City.

Let's hope that New York rejects Weiner.
