Defining Is as a way of life

In a move that could only be called Clintonian, president Obama repeated today that he first heard of the IG report about the IRS scandal when news of that report was leaked to the press.

Now you may ask why this is Clintonian.  The reason is that Obama was not asked when he first heard about the IG report.  He was asked when he first heard about the IRS targeting conservative groups.  Of course, Obama did not answer the question today.  He ducked it in a way that Bill Clinton used to use during the days of Monica Lewinsky.

We know that this is not just a problem of the IRS office in Cincinnati.  Other field offices of the IRS are involved.  Officials at the IRS' headquarters in Washington are involved.  There are something like 25 to 30 different IRS people already named as being involved.  Even the co-chair of the Obama re-election campaign committee is said to be involved.  Congressmen and Senators complained for months about the misbehavior of the IRS.  But Obama still wants us all to believe that he had no idea about what was happening.

It would have played better if Obama had just said "I am shocked, shocked to find that there is misbehavior at the IRS."  At least then some of us could savor the humor in that statement.

By the way, Obama was also asked if anyone on his staff knew of the IRS criminal activity.  He refused to answer that question as well.

Bill Clinton once lied under oath and later said that he had told the truth because he defined the word "is" in a different manner than most folks would.  Obama has taken this practice and raised to a way of life.
