Oh Behave!

The modern self-proclaimed Austin Powers is out preaching to the supporters of Bernie Sanders.  The message from Ed Rendell is "Oh, behave!"

Let me explain.  First of all, Rendell is one of the core supporters of Hillary Clinton.  He is the former mayor of Philadelphia, governor of Pennsylvania and Chair of the Democrat National Committee.  As a result, he is also the head of the host committee in Philadelphia for the upcoming Democrat National Convention.  Here's Rendell's description of how the convention will go:

“I think it’s gonna be a great convention, but of course the key to it is the Sanders people. Bernie’s gonna have his name placed in nomination; we’re gonna have a roll call; there’s gonna be a demonstration in support of Bernie; he’s gonna lose the roll call.  His supporters have to behave and not cause trouble. And I think they will, and I think Sen. Sanders will send them a strong message.”

There's been so much focus placed on the battles within the GOP that no one is really paying attention to what's going on with the Democrats.  It's amazing that a politically savvy guy like Rendell would tell all those Sanders' supporters basically to sit down and shut up.  It's one way to make them angry and to cause on ongoing schism among Democrats.  Most likely, this will all be smoothed over by the time the convention rolls around.  Nevertheless, with Hillary as a candidate, it's very possible that her campaign's message to the Sanders' supporters will be sit down and shut up.  After all, Hillary has been fuming for months that Sanders had the temerity to take her on and ruin her plan for an effortless coronation as the candidate.  Remember, there is no one in America who feels more entitled than Hillary Clinton.

I really doubt that Rendell would have said something like this without first clearing it with the Clinton campaign.  He's way too smart and too good a politician for that.  If this is actually Hillary's message, she better change it fast.  Some of those Sanders' voters will shift to Trump or, more likely, just stay home.  Remember, the upset in the GOP is among the self-proclaimed elites.  The upset among the Dems would be among the rank and file Sanders' supporters.  You know who I mean:  the ones who gave all those $27 contributions.
