Brazil has a new president, Michel Temer. Actually he's the acting president while the impeachment proceedings against the president Rousseff take place. It's a big change for Brazil. The impeached president is a woman and a leftist. Temer is neither. So when a country as important as Brazil moves from a leftist to a relative conservative, the world press gets its knives out to try to destroy the new guy. That's what has been happening with Temer.
The first attack against Temer is that he named a cabinet that is all male. Oh, the horror of it! The world press is scandalized. Brazilians, on the other hand, don't really seem to care about this much. They realize that Temer is acting president and unlikely to be in office beyond the current term. They are waiting to see what he does before passing judgment.
The second attack against Temer from the press is that he has a young and beautiful wife who likes to live the good life. Combine that with Temer's substantial wealth and the press has a field day. The president's wife is spending big bucks while the economy is not doing well, or so the attack line goes. It's pretty funny. President Obama's wife and kids go on vacations that cost taxpayers tens or hundreds of millions of dollars, but the media rarely mentions this. When the wife of Brazil's new president goes to Paris on vacation, they treat it like it's the end of the world.
Hopefully, the people of Brazil won't buy into the world media garbage attacking their new president. We'll have to wait and see.
