Why Do They Have Know Nothing Reporters Write About the Supreme Court?

The Supreme Court issued an order in the Little Sisters of the Poor case today.  That's not the official name, but the order of nuns by that name are one of the plaintiffs.  The issue before the Court was whether or not the rules under Obamacare could require the nuns to get involved with providing insurance that would pay for abortions for employees of the order.  It's not worth going into all the details, now.  Suffice to say that this was a decision that could have had far reaching consequences.

The key today was that the Court sent the case back to the Court of Appeals for further consideration.  In the arguments before the Supreme Court, both sides in the dispute agreed that they would find it acceptable for the insurance company to pay for the abortions so long as the nuns did not have to direct that or have any other involvement with that payment.  What that meant was that there seemed to be a clear resolution to the dispute that was acceptable to both sides.  The Supreme Court told the lower court to have the parties explore finalizing that resolution and ending the case.  It was clearly the right course.  Courts especially the Supreme Court, are not supposed to issue opinions if there is no real dispute between the parties.  There seems to be none here.

Despite following the law, the Court was blasted by the media.  According to the AP, the Court "punted" on the decision.  Similar articles appeared from some other news sources.  These articles were written by reporters who obviously do not understand how the court system works.  It's sad that much of the country will get told about the decision with a spin attached that is completely wrong.
