The senate passed a bill today that would allow US citizens who are victims of terrorism to sue foreign countries that participate in that terrorism. Basically, the bill allows the families of 9-11 victims to sue countries like Saudi Arabia if they can prove that Saudi Arabia took part in the attack. The key thing about the bill is that president Obama has announced that he will veto it should it pass, and the senate just passed it unanimously. In other words, the senate Democrats just broke with Obama in a major way, a very major way.
There is a bill in the House which may get a vote soon. It's hard to tell if a final bill will even pass this year. One thing is certain, however, Obama just got the finger from his own party in the senate.
