So we have the release of the House intelligence committee memo which, among other things, makes clear that former FBI Director Jim Comey knowingly authorized an application to the FISA court based upon an unverified and unverifiable dossier created for the Democrat National Committee and the Clinton campaign without telling the FISA court of the true nature of that dossier. Comey, as a lawyer himself, had an obligation to tell the truth to the FISA court, not to mention the legal obligations that come with being the FBI director. He may be criminally liable for those actions.
So what is Comey's response? Here it is in a tweet:
That’s it? Dishonest and misleading memo wrecked the House intel committee, destroyed trust with Intelligence Community, damaged relationship with FISA court, and inexcusably exposed classified investigation of an American citizen. For what? DOJ & FBI must keep doing their jobs.
In short, Comey is losing it. I love the part where he says the memo inexcusably exposed the classified investigation of an American citizen. Is there anyone paying attention in America who didn't know that Carter Page (the citizen in question) had been investigated by the FBI? No way! And is there anyone who doesn't know that Comey himself leaked classified information by giving it to a friend who is a Columbia law professor so that it could in turn be given to the New York Times? I doubt it. The difference is that Comey leaked classified discussions with the President that were secret until Comey broke the law to leak them. The investigation of Carter Page may have still been "classified", but it surely wasn't secret.
Then Comey calls the memo dishonest. Of course, he doesn't say how. He calls the memo misleading; here too, he doesn't say in what way. Comey is just throwing everything he can think of against the truth the memo contains. If he didn't sign the FISA application, he can say so. (SILENCE) If he didn't base the FISA application on the Trump Dossier, he could say so. (MORE SILENCE) If Comey thinks that anything in the memo is wrong, he can tell us what that is. (DON"T HOLD YOUR BREATH WAITING FOR THAT TO HAPPEN.)
