Since old allegations of spousal abuse are the rage in Washington these days, it's important to focus on all the men who have faced these things.
Obviously, Rob Porter, the staff secretary in the White House is number one on the hit parade. (Sorry, I couldn't resist the pun.) His two ex-wives claim he abused them physically or verbally during their marriages. Porter resigned his position and the media is busy calling for the firing of Chief of Staff John Kelly because he said some nice things about Porter when the allegations first surfaced.
Number two on the list, however, is not in the White House. It's Delaware Democrat senator Tom Carper who has admitted to slapping his wife. Carper used to deny this, but he admitted assaulting his wife some years back. Carper is not resigning and there seem to be no calls for him to go. I guess the difference is that Porter denies the allegations but works in the White House while Carper admits the attack but is a Democrat.
Number three on the list is Ohio Democrat senator Sherrod Brown. In his divorce proceedings, Brown's wife claimed that he consistently abused her over a three year period. Like Porter, Brown denies the charges. Brown is still in the Senate, and he is contemplating a run for president in 2020. Of course, as a Democrat, Brown thinks he has immunity. Maybe he does.
