Do The Democrats Actually Care About Anyone?

The victim group of the moment for Democrats is the so called "dreamers".  Those are the roughly 800,000 people brought to this country illegally as children who have registered under DACA.  They are also the people for whom the Democrats shut down the federal government a few weeks ago.  Day after day, we hear speeches from Democrats, read tweets from Democrats and hear support from the Democrats' media echo chamber about the poor dreamers and how they are being forced to live in fear of deportation.  The Democrats tell us over and over again that the dreamers have to be protected and that this goal is more important than anything else.  But, is any of this talk the truth?  Do Democrats really care about the dreamers?  In fact, do the Democrats actually care about anyone?

America has actually gotten the answer to that question.  Sadly, we all know now that the Dems do not care one bit about the dreamers.  They care only about getting back into power.  I ask you to think about it for a moment.

1.  President Trump offered the Democrats a deal under which 1.8 million people including all the dreamers would be given legal status and a path to citizenship in 12 years provided they meet certain conditions (like not committing crimes, for example.)  That's almost three times the number of people who would be protected by the Trump plan than the number who were actually protected under Obama's DACA plan.

2.  President Trump's plan required the Democrats to agree to three other things in exchange for the protection of the dreamers.  First, the green card "diversity" lottery would be ended.  This is the program that just gave a green card to 50,000 applicants chosen at random each year.  No one really supports this program since it serves no purpose.  Surely, the Democrats would give up the green card lottery to get protection for nearly 2,000,000 dreamers.  But they won't.

3.  The next of the three things to which the Democrats would have to agree is ending chain migration.  It would be replaced with merit based immigration.  As with ending the green card lottery, polls of the public show overwhelming support for making such a change.  Here too, one would expect the Democrats to jump at the chance to make this deal, but they refuse.

4.  The last thing to which the Democrats would need to agree is improved border security.  This would involve building sections of the wall and increasing border surveillance.  It would cut off the huge flow of drugs over our southern border.  Senator Chuck Schumer offered this right before the government shutdown, so it is clearly not something to which the Democrats have a basic objection.  Even so, they won't agree to it now.

So we have a deal which would bring protection to all the dreamers.  That's what the President and the Republicans are offering.  It's the Democrats who are rejecting this completely.  They can tell us that they care, but the actions of the Democrats make clear that they really don't care about the dreamers at all.
