Why Say This?

Yesterday, President Trump said that he was prepared for a government shutdown if the Democrats couldn't agree on a fix for DACA.  Why would he say that?  It makes no sense to me.

The House just passed a bill to fund the government until the end of March.  The bill would also fund the military until the end of the year so that uncertainty regarding funding would stop hurting our military preparedness.  The bill would also extend funding for certain medical services for the poor and some other social programs that are expiring.  The bill is now in the Senate where there is supposedly a compromise for funding for the rest of the year in the works.  The Democrats seemed clearly unwilling to shut the government down like they did a few weeks ago.  So why did Trump throw out his bombshell about another government shutdown?

If there is no deal now and the government actually does shut down, the Democrats will all say that Trump caused it.  The media will play Trump's comment from yesterday around 10,000 times to portray the President as the cause.  In my opinion this is one of those things that Trump says that could well come back to bite him.
