The Senate voted today on the competing DACA bills. The senators were consistent; they voted against every suggested solution. They rejected a bill which outlined the plan proposed by President Trump. They voted against a bill that granted amnesty to the DACA crew and provided a fig leaf of other moves that would not have increased border security or improved the immigration law. They voted against a bill that would have required sanctuary cities to cooperate with the feds or else lose federal funding. The list goes on, but everything was defeated.
Where does that leave the DACA people who the senators supposedly want to help? Well, there's no rush as of this moment because the DACA program has been ordered to remain in place by a federal court. That order may soon be reviewed by the Supreme Court, however, so it is possible that the DACA program could be erased with hardly a moment's notice. At that point, the DACA people who the Democrats pretend to want to help would be at the mercy of deportation by ICE. It may take that sort of imminent action against the DACA people to finally get the Democrats to come to a final deal.
