A judge in Florida ruled this afternoon that governor Ron DeSantis acted within the scope of his authority when he dismissed Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel due to his mishandling of the mass shooting at the highschool in Parkland. The governor acted to remove the sheriff within a few days of being sworn in last January. Former sheriff Israel sued for reinstatement claiming that DeSantis acted outside the scope of his authority.
This is a great development for Florida. The court made certain that Israel could not hide behind some weak statements as a cover for Israel's inability to do his job. Saying politically correct things doesn't make up for mishandling a situation with the result that many high school kids ended up dead.
