Scheming, Intrigue And It's Not Game Of Thrones

This weekend brought two big doses of scheming and intrigue of note.  First the obvious:  Game of Thrones is back on HBO.  The first episode was rather blah; it was mostly setting things up for the rest of the season.  Nothing much happened ---- YET.

The second is much more interesting and important.  It was reported that Bernie Sanders sent a letter to the Center For American Progress and some others accusing them of undermining the Democrats' chance in 2020 and of organizing smears of him and some other candidates.  That the Center for American Progress would smear Sanders is not surprising.  They are just following their playbook from 2016.  That Bernie would call them out, however, is big news.  And note that the letter somehow was leaked to the media.  Most likely, it was Sanders who did the leaking.

Remember, it is not often that one far left Democrat accuses a group of far left Democrats of undermining the Democrats.  This is fratricidal at best and it should be setting off the alarm bells at the DNC.  If the far left segment of the Democrats starts shooting at each other, they could embed such anger and division that it will be nearly impossible for the party to beat the President in 2020.  Further, the idea that a prominent Democrat is calling out a prominent Democrat organization for spreading phony rumors and lies about other Democrats certainly calls into question the veracity of the Democrats in general.  When Trump says that this or that Democrat is not being honest, it will just be another voice in the chorus.  It will be hard for the Democrats to talk about how honest they are when they have been busy calling each other liars and reprobates.

Who knows what will happen?  Will the Center for American Progress bend the knee, or will it suffer the consequences.  There are going to be a lot more than five further episodes here.
